Exercise Is Crazy Hard These Days

After a couple of straight weeks of little-to-no exercise in December, I am back.  The goal is to work out 4-5 times/week through my second trimester at least, and hopefully for as long as I can stand it.

Normally, that wouldn’t be a problem.  While I was a pretty sedentary kid and teen (I had pretty bad, uncontrolled asthma), over the past 7 years or so, I have worked out pretty consistently.  Before I got pregnant I was up to 6 times a week, with a good mix of running, lifting, and pilates.

But pregnancy is humbling like that.  I was trying to explain my sudden lack of motivation to my husband, who, after open heart surgery, bugged his cardiologist about when he could resume jogging.  I said to him: “You know that feeling you get where it feels like your heart is going to explode?  It usually sets in 20-30 minutes into your spinning class, or that kettlebell class?” (He nods.) “Well, now I get that from 8 bicep curls.”

I suspect the real problem is that I get out of breath very quickly, which is really scary for an asthmatic, even one who hasn’t had an attack in years.  Oh, well.  I guess I will keep on keeping on.

Does anyone have any tips for me?
